Connecticut’s 30% Tax Incentive
The Credits
In the 2006, the Connecticut General Assembly established comprehensive tax credits for the production of motion pictures, television, advertising and video games. The fully transferable credit is equal to 30% of qualified production, preproduction and postproduction expenses incurred in the State.
What are qualified expenses?
In Connecticut, the rules are very simple: if you spend money in the state of Connecticut, and those expenditures exceed $50,000, you begin earning credits on nearly every single line item – as long as the expense is incurred in the State. You can shoot 90% of your project in another region, and you will still get the credit on all of the expenses that are actually incurred in Connecticut.
Are there any caps?
Many programs also contain caps – a cap on the overall amount a production can earn; a cap on the amount the region can give out in a given year, a cap on the overall salary of above-the-line players. In Connecticut, the only cap is a $15M limit on salaries PER PERSON.
